As a product of the urban, local public school system in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Artesius Miller has seen hands-on the academic disparities and challenges that affect our youth. As a recipient of the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship Program, Dr. Artesius attended and graduated from Morehouse College in 2009 (Bachelor of Arts in Economics); Teachers College, Columbia University in 2011 (Master of Arts in Education Leadership); and is currently enrolled as a Ph.D. student in the Educational Administration and Policy program at the University of Georgia (expected graduation 2015). Professional experiences in financial services and education management organizations, combined with deeply rooted family ties in education, impacted Dr. Artesius’ vision to create Utopian Academy for the Arts.
Prior to entering the field of education, Dr. Artesius began his professional career in financial services as an analyst with Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, respectively. Beginning in 2009, while living in New York City, Dr. Artesius worked as a college access coach in Bridgeport, CT and a volunteer School teacher at a local charter school in Brooklyn. After relocating to Atlanta in 2011, Artesius worked as the Operations Analyst & Business Development Manager for Mosaica Education; a national educational management organization. From 2012-2013, Dr. Artesius was asked to serve as the Program Director for the Steve Harvey National Mentoring Program for Young Men. Shortly before transitioning into the role of Executive Director for Utopian Academy for the Arts, Artesius held the position of Business Manager at Wesley International Academy Charter School.
Dr. Artesius is the proud son of Holly Miller and big brother of Armani Singh. He also has two pet sons, Chance and Titan Miller. “If I stand tall, it’s because I stand on the backs of my ancestors”. Through hard work, perseverance, and faith, Dr. Artesius has truly learned that all things are possible. He is extremely grateful to see his vision of Utopian Academy for the Arts come into fruition.
