Drew’s Students Ignite Conversations on Black History at Morehouse

Drew’s Student Equity Committee stepped up in a major way last week at ASALH Youth Day! 💡 We were honored to take a leadership role at this inspiring celebration of Black history emphasizing the impact of Black labor, held at @morehouse1867.

Our students guided attendees through an Equitable Dinners experience, using our Thriving Together Atlanta play to spark deep, meaningful conversations. They expertly facilitated small-group discussions showcasing the incredible leadership, facilitation, and community dialogue skills they’ve developed through the Youth Equity Incubator.

It was a powerful opportunity to engage with educators and community leaders passionate about history and justice. Drew was honored to be invited to participate on this significant public stage!

(ASALH: Association for the Study of African American Life and History, founded by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, and the driving force behind the creation of Black History Month continues its mission to preserve and promote African American history and culture at Morehouse College.)

It’s time to empower our students! The Equity Amp Up APS! student survey is coming soon for all students in grades 4–12 at APS traditional schools. This is their opportunity to voice their thoughts, influence their educational journey, and help foster positive changes throughout our district. For families who prefer not to participate, please opt out by October 31st. The survey will be conducted from November 3–28, and further details can be found in the opt-out letter. In alignment with this year’s virtue theme of courage, students engaged in enriching activities designed to foster connection and build community. With the guidance of our dedicated Lower School leadership, faculty, House Leaders, SGA, and Sources of Strength, we welcomed each student warmly in carpool, distributed special name tags during morning assemblies, and enjoyed fun trivia sessions with Dr. Han. Our aim is to create a vibrant campus culture where courageous and intentional speech thrives throughout every grade level. This quarter marks just the beginning of our journey together!
