Dr. Artesius Miller

As a graduate of Atlanta Public Schools, Dr. Artesius Miller has seen, hands-on, the economic disparities and academic challenges facing Georgia classrooms. And as a visionary leader with  impeccable credentials and a heart for public education, he rises to meet those challenges, pushing students and staff to achieve at high levels. As the recipient of a prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship, Dr. Miller earned degrees from Morehouse College (B.A., Economics, 2009), Teachers College, Columbia University (M.A., Education Leadership, 2011), and the University of Georgia (Ph.D., Educational Administration and Policy, 2016). Dr. Miller began his professional career in financial services as an analyst with Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, respectively. Then, in 2009, he tackled a job that would change his career path. He served as a College Access/Mentoring Coach in Bridgeport, CT, and at a local charter school in Brooklyn, NY. He helped students through the college application/financial aid process, coordinated college tours, and established school partnerships with scholarship programs, including the UNCF Gates Millennium Scholars Program. When he relocated to Atlanta in 2011, Dr. Miller accepted a job in education operations. He worked as the Operations Analyst and Business Development Manager for Mosaica Education, a national educational management organization. He identified opportunities for company growth, developed and coordinated charter school proposals and presentations, established relationships with corporate partners, non-profitorganizations, community leaders, and vendors, and more. Dr. Miller longed to work with students as had in New York. He left his corporate job to work in a nonprofit. From 2011-2012, Dr. Miller served as Program Director for the Steve Harvey National Mentoring Program for Young Men, where his work included planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling program activities. He saved more than $300K in operating budget expenditures, developed initiatives to support the strategic direction of this empowering foundation, and secured understandings with national colleges and universities to award scholarships to program students. Better Outcomes for OUR Kids‘ (BOOK) mission is to raise awareness around the need for high-performing schools in African-American communities, and the need to expand and increase the awareness of educational options and school choice. We believe when leaders are equipped with and prepared to share objective information about high-quality schools through BOOK’s programming, they will be effective at communicating the educational crisis effecting African-American youth. With support from parents, local constituents, policymakers, the media, and key influencers, we can change the course of our failing schools.
